Alysia Wood The Boob Tour

The Boob Tour

I just finished The Boob Tour, which worked with Relay for Life to raise funds and awareness for cancer in local communities.  James Uloth, who lost his friend’s mom to breast cancer at 16, produces and hosts the tour, which to date raised roughly $160,000 in 2011 alone.

I was delighted to work with Lars Callieou again (we met during the 2008 Seattle International StandUp Comedy Competition) and Allison Laine for the first time.  Ally is a breast cancer survivor, delightful human being and self-proclaimed slut.  At the shows, Ally shared her story with a brief compilation video.  After the video, James would introduce Ally, who told jokes and encouraged the audience to use laughter to get them through.  She lead fun games and was certainly the inspirational element of the tour.  Even though I lost 4 people to cancer, I don’t know very much about it.  Ally was kind enough to answer my never-ending (and extremely invasive) questions at any time.  The more I learned, the more I wanted to help.

We met so many survivors and their supporters.  In White Court, a woman decked out in pink feather boas, neon pink glasses, pink glow sticks, pink sun glasses (and more!) walked in the door and said cheerily, “I’m a survivor!”,  it gave me hope for the multiple people in my life that are fighting cancer now.  Even still, I was at a loss for words.  I said awkwardly, “Yeah!  High five?”  and we did.  I’m sure beating cancer deserves more than a high-five, but she caught me off guard and that was all I had.

I was touched by the “In memory of candles” that multiple locations sold.  I’d love to honor someone each night – my grandfather (prostate), comedian Cain Lopez (lung), Michele Brown-Davis (breast) and my grandmother (breast).  My friend, porn star Hollie Stevens, is currently fighting breast cancer (you can visit her blog to learn how to support her fight by buying socks!) and many are fighting other forms of cancer.

Also, I didn’t win any of the “50/50’s” that I participated in and I’m still pissed.  I’m talking to you, White Court and Grand Prairie.

Here’s a video from behind the scenes.

A huge thanks to the hilarious Tracey MacDonald for bringing The Boob Tour to my attention.

It was a great tour and I’m grateful I was a part of it.
